I rarely learn anything new from interviews with Genesis P.Orridge but Nardwuar knew a lot of esoteric facts about Genesis. Edley Odowd is also there for the show. Really worth a watch for fans of early Industrial miscellany. Headline is at the seventeen minute mark.
Yesterday was the 24th anniversary of Skinny Puppy’s Last Rights release. Coincidentally its been on rotation in my car stereo this past week.
I have seen FLA live a grotesque amount of times. The first time was in 1992 with opening act Contagion (misspelled on the ticket). The concert was at DV8 in SLC and I was not old enough to get in. Luckily no one was checking ID’s to see if the teens were actually 16 or not, just the 21+ crowd whom got to go upstairs on the balcony. I’m not sure I even owned an identification card of any sort at the time.
I also remember what a complete asshole a friend of a friend there was. This asshole would later introduce my sister to cocaine and would try to date the next three girlfriends I broke up with. this was the first show oneamyseven and I would attend together, and we still see a show together about once a year. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
At this particular show in 1998 oneamyseven and I (both on the guest list for different reasons) had a chance to speak briefly with Bill Leeb and for much longer with Chris Peterson. I was really into Will (with Rhys Fulber) and Decree in the mid to late nineties so I was glad to talk to Chris about those projects, Decree especially. He seemed surprised someone would want to chat about that, rather than what Bill was up to, but honestly, Bill had a lot of interviews in that time frame so I didn’t have many extra questions. Not that it mattered, I don’t even recall my brief Q&A with CP before the show. Probably for the best it was never written or recorded, it would probably embarrass me now.
The power went out during this show. Though, I do think I had a longer version somewhere.
I don’t remember where this was or which year it was for sure. I believe it is 1996-10-17 in SLC, Utah but it could be in the high desert of California and it could be 1997. Someone remembers, I don’t. The video is too dark to really see much and it was not recorded by me. The VHS was given to me at one time to duplicate over some fears that the original would not survive; which I don’t think it did. This was recorded by a member of Cannibal Buffet or a friend of the band.
From my notes on the YouTube upload:
(still poor audio, this will be a theme guys)
I may have the date wrong here (I mean, it is incredibly likely here), but I know it was the winter of 1997/1998. I wouldn’t have been old enough to drink yet.
This would be the first time I heard the song ‘Static’ and I remember really liking it. I have since overplayed it. Still a fan.
I talked with Ryan and Roger a short bit but had an extended conversation wit Siebold from Hate Dept. during sound check. I don’t remember much about the conversations except he had sort of rolled into a mini-lecture on what to not eat and some of the fucked up food industries. This is only significant because it was the same lecture I’d overhear him giving a female friend of mine at another show in another state the following year.
There is a point where the power shuts off and then comes back on. This is due to a really poorly placed record button on the Hitachi 8mm camcorder I was using. This will repeat itself at other shows I’m sure.
Kevorkian Death Cycle: Live in Hollywood 1998-01-29 @ Perversion
I created a Lousy Sauce YouTube channel specifically for a few of these videos. Maybe we’ll add more going forward.
From my notes on the YouTube upload:
This was recorded with permission. At this show Metropolis (Brian??) gave the approval as well. I was going to send them a copy and then I didn’t for some reason. I was always in trouble for something back then, who knows? As I recall this was the first and last time I recorded a show at Area 51. Special thanks to the club, label, and the band for saying yes. Even though the end result is barely worth watching.
Video camera was a few years old at the time, keep in mind circa 1995-96 home cameras in the mid-range were just getting color view-finders, even then they weren’t great. Considering how much of a poorfag I was back then, I’m thankful I had a camcorder at all. The 8mm tapes haven’t survived well, and the audio is the most obvious area for this. Unfortunately these were transferred to VHS in 2004 and a few years later to the computer. I believe the original tapes are long gone.
Kevorkian Death Cycle: Live in Salt Lake City 1998-11-08 @ Area 51
This show would have been the opening act for Front Line Assembly; a backdrop for FLA can be seen in this video.
Prior to this show I’d seen them at Area 51, and would again the following year. I have a few photos from each show but can’t be bothered to search for them all now. The official website would wind up being lost and held by a cybersquatter and so I setup KillForChrist.com (which itself has transferred cybersquatter’s hands a few times. It was a bad time to do so as it would be a long long time before KDC would release new material. The WayBackMachine didn’t save images so you can’t see anything from the site.
HH: Laibach has said in the past that they love America. Do you think America loves Laibach back?
LA: Judging from the reactions of the audience at our concerts, it generally does. We are already getting worried.
From Amber Waves of Ambiguity; an Interview with Laibach 2015-07-21 | backup mirror
Ministry announced a grande final tour for the band. I’m not interested in the last decade of metal they’ve produced. I did notice they are playing with Laibach, but only in Philadelphia. So I looked up Laibach 2015 tour dates in the United States…and does anyone want to meet me in Los Angeles on June first?
It’s rhetorical, I’ll be there anyhow.
